Idén második alkalommal került megrendezésre a Katolikus Magyarok Egyesületének jóvoltából a Hagyományőrző Délután, amely során változatos programok, előadások, workshopok várták az érdeklődőket. A délután során a klasszikus magyar ízek sem maradhattak ki a programból…
Hagyományaink tisztelete és védelme közös ügyünk. Ahogyan az is, hogy ne csak megőrizzük az évszázados múltra visszatekintő tradícióinkat, hanem ápoljuk és továbbadjuk őket a következő generációnak, bízva abban, hogy ők majd ugyanígy járnak el. Ezzel a céllal hívta életre a Katolikus Magyarok Egyesülete a Hagyományőrző Délutánt, hogy többezer kilométerre az anyaországtól, egy kis magyar közösségnek lehetősége legyen hagyományainak felelevenítésére.
Idén március 8-án, vasárnap, tavalyhoz képest kisebb változtatásokkal került megrendezésre a tematikus nap. Előadóink között köszönthettük Ferenczi Anettet, cserkészcsapatunk vezetőjét, aki a gyöngyfűzés mesterségébe vezette be a gyerekeket-felnőtteket egyaránt. Idén karkötők és fülbevalók kerültek elkészítésre a különböző színű gyöngyökből. A nap első előadása Kis Anna Borbála calgaryi KCSP-ösztöndíjas nevéhez fűződik, aki a néptánc kialakulásáról tartott interaktív prezentációt, melyben ő maga is bemutatott néhány jellegzetes táncot.
A Csárdás Tánccsoport töpörtyű és apró táncosai szintén kitettek magukért, és a táncpróbákon gyakorolt különböző játékokba a közönség soraiban ülő gyerekeket is bevonták, akik nagy örömmel csatlakoztak a produkcióhoz. Itt kell megemlíteni Tóth Patrícia és Takáts Michelle munkáját, akik heti szinten foglalkoznak a gyerekekkel és a délutáni foglalkozást is levezették. Keresztes Sándor és 140 éves citerája újra nagy sikert aratott. Ezúttal nem egyedül, hanem Bartha Kristóf KCSP-ösztöndíjassal együtt hoztak el egy népdalcsokrot a közönségnek. Kristóf ezt követően a citera történetéről, alakiságáról és játéktechnikájáról mesélt a nézőknek, majd bemutatott néhány egyedi dallamot is a hangszeren.
A parkolóban – az időjárási körülmények ellenére – egész komoly íjászatot folytattak a fiatalok Gróf Zoltán vezetésével, és a céltáblára felaggatott lufikat is sikerült kivétel nélkül kilőni. A Magyar Ház alagsorában ekkor már a beszélgetésé és a magyaros ízeké volt a főszerep: rendezvényfelelősünk, Jusztin Ernesztina jóvoltából paprikás krumpli, míg Endre–Peták Melindának köszönhetően palacsinta került az asztalokra.
Köszönjük mindenkinek, aki részt vett a Hagyományőrző Délutánon, csatlakozott hozzánk az előadásokra és vacsorára. Köszönjük előadóink szereplését, hogy programjaikkal színesebbé tették ezt a napot. Külön köszönet illetti Hideg Klaudiát, a Szent Imre Magyar Iskola igazgatóját, aki megszervezte és levezette a Hagyományőrző Délutánt. Találkozunk jövőre is!

This year, for the second time, the Traditional Hungarian Afternoon was organized thanks to the Catholic Hungarian Association. The event offered a variety of programs, presentations, and workshops for those interested. Of course, the afternoon would not have been complete without some classic Hungarian flavors as well.
Respecting and protecting our traditions is a shared responsibility. It is important not only to preserve centuries-old traditions but also to nurture and pass them to the next generation – trusting that they will do the same. With this goal in mind, the Catholic Hungarian Association created the Traditional Hungarian Afternoon, so that even thousands of kilometers away from the homeland, a small Hungarian community can experience and celebrate their traditions.
This year on Sunday, March 8, the event was organized for the second time with a few changes compared to last year. Among our presenters was Anett Ferenczi, leader of our scout group, who introduced both children and adults to the craft of beadwork. This year, participants created bracelets and earrings from beads of various colours. The first presentation of the day was given by Anna Borbála Kis, the KCSP-scholar from Calgary, who delivered an interactive presentation on the origins of the Hungarian folk dance and even demonstrated several characteristic dances herself.
The Csárdás Dance Group’s young dancers also did an excellent job, involving children from the audience in various games they practice during rehearsals. The children happily joined in the performance. Here we should also mention the effort of Patrícia Tóth and Michelle Takáts, who work with the children on a weekly basis and led the afternoon’s session. Sándor Keresztes and his 140-year-old zither once again received great applause. This time Kristóf Bartha, our KCSP-scholar also joined, and together they performed a selection of Hungarian folk songs. Kristóf then spoke to the audience about the history, structure, and playing technique of zither, and demonstrated several unique folk songs on the instrument.
In the parking lot – despite the weather conditions – the young participants took part in some serious archery, led by Zoltán Gróf, and even managed to shoot all the balloons attached to the target. Meanwhile, in the basement of the Hungarian House, conversation and Hungarian flavors took stage. Thanks to our event coordinator Ernesztina Jusztin, paprikás krumpli (Hungarian potato stew) was served, while Melinda Endre-Peták prepared palacsinta (Hungarian pancake).
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Traditional Hungarian Afternoon, joined us for the presentations, and shared the dinner with us. Our sincere thanks also go to our presenters for making the afternoon more colourful with their programs.
