Az év utolsó napja idén is december 31-re esett, a hagyományok pedig egy hajnalig tartó buliért kiáltottak. A Magyar Ház újra megtelt élettel, zenével, tánccal, hogy elbúcsúzzon egy emlékezetes esztendőtől, és köszöntse a lehetőségekkel teli újévet.
Ha lehet hinni a számoknak, akkor az idei volt az 55. szilvesztere a sokat látott Magyar Háznak. Ahogy az lenni szokott, az előkészületek most is napokat vettek igénybe – hát még ha hozzászámítjuk, hogy bő egy hete az alagsorba be sem lehetett menni csőtörés miatt… Az óév utolsó napján, késő délután kezdtek el szállingózni az emberek, ahogy pár órával korábban az intenzív havas eső is. Toader István jóvoltából négyfogásos menü került az asztalokra, igazi magyaros fogásokkal: a sajtos pogácsa még csak-csak ismert lehetett kanadai vendégeinknek is, de a korhelyleves, marhapörkölt, sertésszűz, desszertnek pedig a somlói galuska már próbára tehette a gyakorlatlanok gyomoridegeit.
Szilveszter estéjén a Flint zenekar muzsikája repítette át a közönséget 2026-ba. Az együttes mexikói frontembere, Trefor régi motorosa a magyar focicsapatnak, és zenekarával több ízben felléptek már magyar eseményeken. A zenekari szünetekben felcsendültek az örökzöld magyar slágerek, melyek mágnesként vonzották a vendégeket a táncparkettre. Ahogy várható volt, a táncoscipők hajnalig koptatták a Magyar Ház padlóját, miközben az asztaloknál jóízű beszélgetések és anekdotázások folytak.
Köszönjük az önkéntesek munkáját, akik hozzájárultak az est sikeres lebonyolításához, és akik nélkül ez a szilveszter nem jöhetett volna létre! Az Edmontoni Magyar Kultúrkör erőben, egészségben, sikerekben gazdag békés, boldog új évet kíván minden kedves tagjának!

The last day of the year fell on December 31 (again), and tradition called for a party lasting until dawn. The Hungarian House was filled with life, music, and dancing to bid farewell to a memorable year and welcome a new one with full of possibilities.
If the numbers are to be believed, this was the 55th New Year’s Eve celebrated at the well-worn Hungarian House. As usual, the preparations took days – especially considering that just over a week ago the basement was completely inaccessible due to a burst pipe. On the last afternoon of the old year, people slowly began to arrive, just as the heavy snow had started a few hours earlier. Thanks to István Toader, a four-course menu was served, offering authentic Hungarian dishes: the cheese pogácsa might have been familiar to our Canadian guests, but the Hungarian sauerkraut soup, beef stew, pork tenderloin, and Somlói dumplings for dessert may have challenged the stomachs of the uninitiated.
On New Year’s Eve, music by the Flint carried the audience into 2026. The band’s Mexican frontman, Trefor, is a long-time member of the Hungarian soccer team, and he and his group have performed at several Hungarian events before. During the band’s breaks, evergreen Hungarian hits filled the hall, drawing guests to the dance floor like a magnet. As expected, dancing shoes wore down the floorboards of the Hungarian House until dawn, while lively conversations and shared anecdotes filled the tables.
We are grateful to the volunteers whose work contributed to the smooth running of the event and without whom this New Year’s celebration could not have taken place. The Edmonton Hungarian Cultural Society wishes all its members a happy and peaceful new year filled with strength, good health, and success!
